SMU hosted the sixth episode of Perspectives - “Belt, Road Initiative: Will ASEAN remain in the driving seat?” which featured an esteemed panel of thought leaders including SMU President Arnoud De Meyer. The panel discussion was recorded in front of an audience made up of SMU faculty, staff, students and guests at the SMU Hall. The discussion centred on how the Belt, Road Initiative (BRI) is more than just another infrastructure project, fitting in a much larger picture of what China is trying to achieve involving economic and geopolitical factors. Despite the uncertainties and concerns surrounding its development, many countries including ASEAN, are trying to find a role to play in the BRI.
The panellists on the programme are:
· Prof Arnoud De Meyer, President of SMU
· Omar Shahzad, Group CEO, Meinhardt Group
· James Crabtree, Associate Fellow of the Asia-Pacific Programme, Chatham House
