This presentation reviews some of the key understandings from decades of Learning Sciences research on learning and teaching in online settings to demonstrate how and why interaction in online courses can support deep learning. Professor Brett also highlights some of the work her research team has launched that might be helpful to the group. Finally, she addresses the challenges and concerns they are facing in creating online discussion activities and collectively identify potentially helpful pedagogical and assessment strategies for your particular teaching and learning context.
